We don't serve coffee on Sundays!
Within reason, of course, but sometimes I'm left flabbergasted with customer service in some places!
Last weekend I got the chance to have a 'me' day. 4 hours all to myself without the family and doing what I wanted to do.
I decided to take my beach towel, my sun cream and a good book to Las Canteras Beach in Las Palmas. The time I spent on the beach was glorious. The sun was shining, just the right amount of cloud to give you a rest from the heat, and the sound of the waves was fantastic. I stayed around the surfing side of the beach, so the view wasn't bad either :-)
Those 4 hours flew by, and soon enough it was time to go back to my real everyday life.
I decided to have a quick cup of coffee before going back and I stepped into the last restaurant/bar before going into the car park to pick up my car.
I asked for a 'cortado' - a small milky coffee, and all I got in return was "No servimos café los domingos". I'm sure you have all figured out what that means!
Now, can someone tell me what that is all about?!?
OK, I can understand how the fact that some people ask for a coffee and then spend nearly an hour sipping it and chatting with friends can be a little annoying, because they're occupying a table that could be used for new business, but I wasn't occupying a table - I went to the bar. I would even have been satisfied with a take away coffee, but no! 'They don't serve coffee on Sundays!'
To be honest, I think I'm more upset with myself then with the restaurant, for not opening my gob and saying something. Instead I just said, "Oh", and walked off, without a coffee!
Perhaps this bar is giving their clients what they want, or what they deserve?
All I know is that you get what you give - and I won't be going back there again any day soon.
That's why I really liked an email that we received from a guest today who stayed on the resort with us a week ago. I hope they don't mind me using it. It goes something like this...
"Hello Anja, we just wanted to put on record our grateful appreciation and thanks to you, Carmen and the other staff who made our recent stay in your resort so pleasant. It was so refreshing to be greeted by the happy smiling faces and friendly conversation at the reception desk. Even the cleaning lady never passed by without greeting us with a smile and a kind word or two. We got the impression that you all really enjoy the work that you do and that you also take great pleasure in ensuring that your guests are comfortable and happy. You are the smallest RCI resort that we have visited in the past ten years but we are satisfied that you are one of the friendliest, happiest and most relaxed of all."
Club Vista Serena...it really is a wonderful place to be!
